Weibel Scientific appoints new CEO to spearhead next ambitious growth phase

November 26, 2024

Weibel Scientific today announces the appointment of Peter Røpke as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective December 2nd. Peter Røpke joins Weibel from a role as CEO of technology company RTX. He previously served as CEO of Flügger and EVP Business and Technology Development at Grundfos. He also has extensive R&D experience from leadership roles in Nokia. He has a degree in engineering from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

“Weibel has achieved impressive growth in recent years, both in terms of revenue and number of employees. We have substantial market opportunities ahead of us, and we must capitalize on them through continuous product development and expansion in existing and new markets. This requires solid operational performance and on-time delivery to our customers. Peter Røpke, with his extensive CEO experience and his unique combination of global commercial expertise, proven track record in operations and business development, and deep technical understanding, is the ideal leader to take on this challenge,” says Jørgen Falkebo Jensen, Chairman of the Board at Weibel Scientific.

Market-leading technology drives growing order book

With airspace defense a top priority for NATO countries, demand for Weibel’s cutting-edge surveillance radars is soaring. The radars are used to detect drones, track hostile missiles, and protect critical civilian infrastructure. The company is also seeing increased demand for its instrumentation radars for the development, testing, and qualification of weapon systems.

This presents significant opportunities for Weibel to increase its market share, both in existing and new markets. The new CEO is focused on ensuring the optimal foundation to scale rapidly and meet this growing demand.

“Weibel has the best products on the market, particularly in the defense sector, and its technology is second to none. We need to capitalize on this by being more active in developing our markets, especially in the US and Asia. We must also continually improve our delivery performance and ensure we are providing excellent service to our customers wherever they are. I am very much looking forward to working with Weibel’s talented team and owners to achieve this. To be the world leader in its niche while remaining a Danish family-owned company with strong values is a unique combination that I greatly respect and will work hard to preserve,” says Peter Røpke, new CEO in Weibel Scientific.

Ambitious growth ambitions paired with entrepreneurial values

In just four years, Weibel has grown from DKK 325 million in revenue and 160 employees to DKK 575 million in revenue, employing more tham 400 highly specialized engineers and technicians. The ambition is to reach DKK 1 billion in revenue in 2025 and DKK 2.5 billion in revenue with 700 employees by 2030.

“It is ambitious, but we have always been ambitious in Weibel. We are in an exciting growth phase where we need to effectively balance short-term needs with long-term vision. In the short term, we need to improve our delivery organization, allowing us to think big and challenge conventional thinking in the long term. Peter has a proven ability to do both. He will work with our management team and talented employees to build on the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit that has always been at the heart of Weibel as a family-owned company. We believe that together, we can make even the impossible possible,” says Thomas Øiseth Munkholm, owner of Weibel Scientific.

Peter Røpke succeeds Frode Scott Nilsen, who has achieved many important milestones as CEO of Weibel during the past three years.

“Frode has made significant contributions to Weibel’s growth and success in recent years. On behalf of the Board and Weibel’s owners, I would like to thank him for his hard work and dedication and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” says Jørgen Falkebo Jensen.
